Enzyme is a tutoring site used mostly by students under 18 and by their parents. This page says plainly what we hold, why we hold it, and how to get it back or have it removed. It describes what the site actually does today, not what it might do later.

What we collect

If you only practise. You can work through every practice set without an account, and nothing about that is stored.

If you make an account. Your email address, the display name and username you choose, your grade, your school, the courses you pick, and your answers to the short setup questions. That includes your date of birth, which is used to put you on the right age tier of the leaderboard and to keep the content at your grade. We keep a record of each practice question you answer and whether you got it right, because that is what produces your progress, your points and the topic recommendations. If you set goals or submit written work for review, we hold those too.

If you book a session or send a message. The name, email and details you type into that form, so a tutor can reply and arrange the session.

If you leave a review. The name you want shown, your rating and what you wrote, plus an email address if you choose to give one. A person reads every review before it appears on the site. The email address is never published.

If you join the mailing list. Only the address itself and which page you gave it on. It is used to tell you when new practice is available and for nothing else, and there is no newsletter today, so most of the time it simply sits there.

If you apply for a job. Your name, email, an optional phone number, what you wrote, and the resume and cover letter you attach. Files go to private storage that is not readable from the web and can only be opened by us, through a link that expires ten minutes after it is created.

If a page breaks. The browser sends us the error message, which page it happened on, and the browser version, so we can fix it. Nothing you typed, and nothing that identifies you, is part of that report.

If a parent or guardian is recorded for a student. This only happens for students who take lessons with us — either they have booked a session, or an administrator has said so. If someone only uses Enzyme to practise, we hold no family details for them at all, and the site will not let anyone add them. Where it does apply, a tutor or administrator can save a parent's name, their relationship to the student, an email address, a phone number and a short note, so there is someone to contact about that student's progress. This is the one place on the site where we hold details of somebody who has not used it themselves, so it is worth being precise about it. These details are visible only to an administrator and to the tutors that student is assigned to, never to other students, never to other families, and never on any public page. We also keep a copy of any progress update that was written and sent to that parent, so there is a record of what a family has been told. A parent can ask us to correct or delete their details at any time using the address below, whether or not they have an account.

If you ask for a text reminder. When you book a session you can choose to be reminded by email or by text. Choosing text means giving us a mobile number, and that number is used for the reminder about that booking and for nothing else — no marketing, and it is never passed to anyone but the network that carries the message. Choosing email, or no reminder at all, means we never ask for it.

We do not ask for a home address or any payment card details, we only ask for a phone number if you apply for a job or if you are recorded as a student's parent, and we do not buy or receive personal information about you from anyone else.

What we do not do

We do not sell your information, share it with advertisers, or use it to build an advertising profile. There are no third-party advertising or tracking scripts on this site. We do not use your work to train any machine learning model.

Cookies and local storage

Enzyme sets no advertising or analytics cookies. When you sign in, your browser stores a session token so you stay signed in between visits. That token is strictly necessary for the site to work and is cleared when you sign out. If we add analytics later, this page will say so before it happens, and anything non-essential will ask you first.

Where it is stored

Account and progress data is held in a Supabase database hosted in Canada. The site itself is served by Netlify. Those two companies process data on our instructions and hold nothing for their own purposes. Access is restricted at the database level, so one student cannot read another student's account, progress or messages.

How long we keep it

For as long as the account exists. Deleting your account from Settings removes your profile, progress, points and goals. Booking and contact messages are kept while they are needed to arrange and follow up on sessions. Job applications, including the files attached to them, are kept for one year and then deleted; ask us sooner and we will delete them sooner. Mailing list addresses are kept until you ask to come off the list.

Students under 18

A parent or guardian can ask to see everything held about their child, ask for a correction, or ask us to delete the account entirely. Email mail@enzyme.ink from an address we can tie to the account and we will confirm before acting.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law you can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask for a correction, and ask for deletion. Write to mail@enzyme.ink and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything that materially affects what we collect will be flagged on the site rather than made quietly.

Questions about any of this go to mail@enzyme.ink.
